Sleeping (poorly) in the mountains: how does it affect our bodies?

The body understands that its capacity is limited, so our heartbeat because more fast-paced, and the heart receives less oxygen but consumes more of it, causing a sort of widespread stress-induced tension. That’s why people who practice mountain climbing at a professional level usually proceed in steps when they have to climb mountain summits of varying altitude. A gradual approach allows the body to get accustomed to the surrounding environment. The first sensations you experience at high altitudes are headache along with vertigo, nausea, and vomiting, besides sleeplessness.  

What solutions can I adopt to feel better?

In general, the body requires two to three days to adapt to a new environment and for its normal functions to be restored. This is followed by a feeling of relaxation and vitality, at which point you are ready to enjoy the vacation you had been anticipating for so long! At any rate, maintaining a healthy lifestyle helps not to compromise the quality of your sleep. It’s a good idea to reduce the intake of energy drinks and stimulants such as coffee and tea.
